In light of the recent news about the French breast implant maker and the related health issues concerning the Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) breast implants, we’ve been getting a lot of questions regarding the quality and type of breast implants we use at CosMed Plastic Surgery Center.

“I always tell my patients if they are going to have foreign material implanted into their bodies, don’t make the selection based on price but on good quality implants, “ explains Dr. Castañeda, plastic surgeon at CosMed. “When you see an advertisement in a local magazine or online for breast augmentation for less than $3000 (USD), that should always raise a red flag and should make the patient think twice, because the doctor is cutting costs somewhere. My guess would be on implant brand, rather than their surgical fee.”
Dr. Quiroz of CosMed agrees that patients should never consider cost as a primary factor in determining where they will get breast implants or any other type of plastic surgery. “As with any type of medical care, YOUR SAFETY must come first, which means you should always check the credentials and references of the surgeon and plastic surgery center in question,” he advised.
